*The beige hat in the photo is made with Eco Cashmere Vintage col.104 by Gepard Garn [Size 1].

*The green hat in the photo is made with Classic col.543 & Prime col.1180 by Cargiff Cashmere [Size 1].

The Chantal Beanie is worked from the bottom up in the round. It begins with a double-folded brim in 1x1 rib, followed by the main section worked in a slip stitch pattern. The crown is shaped with decreases and can be finished in one of two ways: a twisted crown with six wedges or a classic crown with four wedges, depending on your preference.

Sizes:

1 (2) 3
The Chantal Beanie is designed with approx. 10 cm [4 in] of negative ease. This means the finished hat will be about 10 cm [4 in] smaller than your actual head circumference.
Sizes 1 (2) 3 are designed to fit a head circumference of 54–56 (56–58) 58–60 cm [21¼–22 (22–22¾) 22¾–23½ in].

Before you begin, measure your head to determine the correct size. For example, if your head circumference is 57 cm [22½ in], you should knit size 2.If you are between sizes, choose the size based on how snug or relaxed you prefer your hat to fit.

Finished measurements:

Circumference:
46 (48) 50 cm [18 (19) 19¾ in]

Length:
22 (22) 22 cm [8¾ (8¾) 8¾ in]

Suggested yarn:

Gepard Garn (worked with single strand throughout the process):
100 (100) 100 g Eco Cashmere Vintage 50 g = 150 m [164 yds].

Cardiff Cashmere
(worked with two strands throughout the process):
75 (75) 75 g Classic 25 g = 112 m [122 yds] & 50 (50) 50 g Prime 25 g = 300 m [328 yds].

Yarn alternatives:

You can use any combination of yarns, either a single or double strand, that gives a worsted-weight thickness.

Single strand:
Use one strand of 100% wool or a wool blend with approx. 120–130 m [131–142 yds] per 50 g to achieve the same gauge.

Cashmere options can be slightly finer, around 140–150 m [153–164 yds] per 50 g.

Double strand:Combine one strand of DK-weight wool (175–200 m / 191–219 yds per 50 g) with a lace-weight yarn (200–300 m / 219–328 yds per 25 g) such as silk mohair or alpaca to reach the same worsted-weight thickness.

Suggested needles:

Circular needles:
3 mm [US 2½] 40 cm [16 in].
3.5 mm [US 4] 40 cm [16 in].

Double-pointed needles or long circular needles for the Magic Loop technique:
3.5 mm [US 4].

Gauge:

After washing and blocking:
26 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 in] in slip stitch pattern on 3.5 mm [US 4] needles.
26 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 in] in 1x1 rib on 3 mm [US 2½] needles.

Please make sure to knit a swatch. Ensure that your swatch gauge matches the given one. If you cannot achieve the required gauge using the suggested needles, adjust your needle size to reach the correct gauge.
